About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for a General Surgery NP/PA. The role involves inpatient and OR coverage, managing an average of 20 patients per day, with 5-7 admissions and 4-6 surgical cases. The practice setting is a Level II trauma center with 2 surgeons on site during the day and 1 at night. Approximately 50% of patients are trauma patients. The practice consists of 6 Surgeons and 6 APPs. The schedule is 7 on/7 off with 12-hour shifts, requiring 7-15 shifts per month through November, with both day and night coverage needed. The patient population is 80% adult and 20% pediatric. The EMR system used is EPIC, and credentialing takes approximately 90 days.

Requirements

  • Active Washington licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, ACLS and ATLS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year General Surgery experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Washington OR Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Washington
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) OR National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
