About The Position

Menlo Medical Clinic (MMC), a partner of Stanford Medicine, has an opportunity for a part-time General Surgeon to join our well-established practice in Menlo Park, CA. We offer excellent compensation, collegial support in a multispecialty practice that prioritizes physician self-governance, autonomy, and well-being. The ideal candidate is a clinically experienced general surgeon and will deliver high-quality, surgical care in a multi-specialty setting within the Stanford Medicine Partners and Stanford Health Care ecosystem independently. This is an opportunity to expand the practice according to personal interest.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency.
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery (or equivalent ABMS board).
  • Current, active medical license to practice in California.
  • DEA registration and ability to obtain state prescriptive authority as required.
  • Current ACLS certification (PALS if pediatric patients are involved) or per institutional requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality, patient-centered surgical care; strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; proficiency in EMR documentation; commitment to teamwork and patient safety.
  • Ability to obtain credentialing/privileges with Stanford Health Care and Stanford Medicine Partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Robotic surgery certification and experience is encouraged

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based general surgical care.
  • Preoperative evaluation and optimization for surgical procedures; order and interpret necessary tests; obtain informed consent; ensure compliance with CPT/ICD coding and payer requirements.
  • Perform a broad range of general surgery procedures emphasizing minimally invasive approaches when possible, including: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, Hernia repairs (inguinal and ventral/incisional), Laparoscopic appendectomy, Skin and soft tissue tumor excisions, Breast care, Anorectal procedures.
  • Optimize patient flow, OR/ASC scheduling, and coordination with preoperative clinics, anesthesia teams, and nursing staff to ensure efficient, safe throughput and timely discharge.
  • Manage postoperative care, including pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and structured follow-up in a timely, patient-centered manner.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and adherence to evidence-based guidelines; participate in morbidity and mortality (M&M) conferences as applicable.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, specialists, anesthesia, and OR staff to coordinate care across the continuum within the Stanford network.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the EMR (Epic). Ensure coding accuracy, and comply with payer and institutional requirements.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call coverage as assigned within the clinic’s call schedule and network needs.
  • Engage in clinical protocol development and adherence to Stanford Health Care and Stanford Medicine Partners policies; participate in clinical research or scholarly activities as appropriate.
