About The Position

The General Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all construction operations including field operations and directly supervises all project superintendents and field staff. The General Superintendent interfaces within house Project Managers, internal planning and engineering groups. This position involves frequent day travel and occasional overnight travel.

Requirements

  • Multi-family, ground up construction
  • Proven experience leading field construction teams with a GC
  • Ability to travel
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Advanced knowledge in interpreting building blueprints, including estimating
  • Proven experience interpreting and understanding construction project budgets.
  • Advanced construction skills, including quality control, understanding trade contracts, scopes and knowledge in building and site construction work
  • Proficient in Procore required or similar construction management platform.
  • Onsite construction experience managing multiple teams at one time and proven supervisory and leadership experience
  • Experience training, mentoring and developing staff.
  • Ability to communicate internally and externally to appropriate customers; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create, edit and send work documents in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Project management, time management, math, communication and critical thinking skills in managing work creation and flow
  • Possess reliable transportation and ability to drive to company owned locations as needed
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required with a minimum of 10 years of construction superintendent experience with a GC.
  • Multi-family and stick-built construction required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Project and SAGE Intacct preferred.
  • Experience working with 3rd party developers and state and local officials is preferred
  • OSHA training preferred
  • EarthCraft certified preferred
  • Knowledge of ADA or certification preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or relevant field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Managing field leaders such as Superintendents, Foreman, and other site leads
  • Ensure safety standards per company Best Practices and OSHA standards are implemented at job sites and that on-site leadership is enforcing it
  • Coordinating and scheduling labor assignments for each week’s projects & tasks according to Project Schedules via the Field Leaders and Project Managers.
  • Overseeing & implementing project quality standards for the project and ensuring installation Best Practice Systems are being upheld
  • Implement & oversee company training for field personal such as: 1. Superintendent & Foreman Training, 2. Rough & finish carpentry, steel stud framing, and drywall 3. Safety & Equipment Inspections 4. Coordinate and oversee sub-contractor awareness and expectations of job-sites
  • Oversee & manage company rental equipment, company tools, and company office and field equipment
  • Implement, monitor, benchmark and enforce standards of production for self-performed work to ensure field personal are operating efficiently & effectively
  • Assist with coordinating over or under burdened man-power commitments via networks and alliances in the local area
  • Communicate to Estimating Team, Project Managers, and others of opportunities or issues in regards to production, technology, budgets, etc.
  • Uphold high customer service standards through personal leadership and managed employees
  • Promote the company image through exercising sound and ethical business practices as they relate to customers, suppliers, employees and the public
  • Follow & promote all guidelines, policies and procedures established by the company
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, health & safety laws & ordinances including but not limited to ASHE, OSHA, MDH, and the DOT
  • Manage field operations in regards to directing Field Leaders, project safety, assign work and direct field crew staff for successful project progress through completion
  • Oversee and coordinate work at the jobsites to ensure project schedules are met
  • Recruit, hire, train, discipline, evaluate and make changes in status of all field employees in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Manage field operations budget (tools, equipment, personnel, safety, and vehicles)
  • Visit Jobsites to review quality of work being performed.
  • Attend all company meetings representing current projects, including monthly meetings at various locations with owners.
