Basic Position Summary: Direct all field construction activities and personnel at multiple job sites to ensure that the assigned project meets budget, schedule and safety objectives

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years' experience on Demolition, Heavy Civil and/or Heavy Highway construction projects in a General Foreman or Craft Superintendent position
  • Knowledge of earthwork, grading and drainage work. Trench safety experience is a priority.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control and ability to control and supervise small to midsized groups
  • Good organization, multi-tasking, leadership and decision-making ability
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Ability to manage Pipe Installation, Earthwork & Grading operations.
  • Knowledge of Machine Control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and supervises all activities including determining method of construction, sequencing, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment and work schedule
  • Trains and manages Foremen from various trades and field administrative personnel
  • Through assigned Foremen, manages the day-to-day activities of the construction operation
  • In conjunction with the Project Manager, creates and maintains project schedule, plans, monitors and reviews critical path dates and milestone schedules
  • Communicates site problems, conflicts, schedule and quality issues effectively to the Project Manager and owner
  • Resolves field construction problems
  • Maintains open communication between all subcontractors to ensure all required materials, equipment, inspections, etc. support project activities and project schedule
  • Monitors Foremen & subcontractor compliance with project safety program requirements; ensures that weekly safety inspections and toolbox talks are completed; ensures that corrective measures are implemented
  • Assists the Safety Department in performing incident and/or accident investigations and follow-up
  • Understands all subcontractors’ scopes; assures subcontractors maintain schedules, and quality standards meet contract requirements
  • Assists the Project Manager with subcontractor disputes, quality control and schedule coordination
  • Works with the Project Manager and owner’s representatives to ensure work complies with drawings and specifications
  • Supports the Project Manager in the negotiation of claims and changes
  • Provides input to Project Manager regarding cost and schedule forecasts
  • Assists the Project Manager with review (% complete) of monthly pay requests submitted by contractors
  • Assists the Project Manager with Change Order review
  • Performs project close-out and ensures punch list is completed in a timely manner
  • Monitors staffing levels that contribute to EEO goals for minorities and females
  • Mentors Project Engineers assigned to the project
  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction
  • Ensure that foremen or self does daily recording of quantities, time and daily logs in Heavy Job.
