About The Position

GEORGE MCKENNA ELECTRICAL CONTRACTORS is seeking an experienced and results-driven General Superintendent to oversee field operations across multiple mechanical construction projects. The General Superintendent will provide leadership to project superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and field personnel while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with company standards. This is a key leadership position responsible for coordinating field operations, manpower, scheduling, quality control, safety, and production across Southern Mechanical’s projects.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in commercial mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, or related construction operations
  • Previous experience as a General Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, Superintendent, or similar field leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical construction processes, scheduling, sequencing, and field coordination
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and field teams simultaneously
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and construction safety requirements
  • Ability to travel between job sites as needed
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with construction scheduling and project management software is preferred
  • Experience with large commercial, industrial, healthcare, hospitality, or institutional mechanical projects
  • Experience managing multiple superintendents and large field teams
  • Strong background in HVAC/mechanical systems
  • Experience with design-build and/or negotiated construction projects
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, or similar construction software

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall field leadership and direction for multiple mechanical construction projects
  • Supervise and mentor Project Superintendents, General Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel
  • Coordinate daily field operations to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget
  • Review project schedules and establish manpower, material, and equipment requirements
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, Engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and customers
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential scheduling, manpower, material, or coordination issues before they impact the project
  • Ensure work is installed in accordance with plans, specifications, approved submittals, applicable codes, and company quality standards
  • Conduct regular site visits and participate in project meetings as needed
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout all projects and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety policies
  • Coordinate mechanical trades and assist with resolving field conflicts and constructability issues
  • Review manpower productivity and help implement strategies to improve field efficiency
  • Ensure proper coordination and timely delivery of materials, equipment, and prefabricated components
  • Assist project teams with scheduling, sequencing, logistics, and recovery plans when projects fall behind schedule
  • Communicate project status, concerns, and opportunities to senior management
  • Assist with hiring, training, development, performance management, and retention of field personnel
  • Maintain strong relationships with general contractors, owners, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders
  • Participate in project turnover, commissioning, punch-list completion, and closeout activities
  • Travel between active project sites as required
