About The Position

The General Superintendent for Flintco's EPC Utility-Scale Solar division is responsible for overseeing multiple projects within a division or a single large-scale project. This role involves multi-level supervision of personnel and tasks, requiring close coordination with subcontractors and suppliers. The position typically supervises multiple Superintendents and Senior Superintendents and their respective projects and field crews. Flintco, founded in 1908, is a company that employs over 800 people across 8 cities, serving clients in healthcare, education, hospitality, sports, and industrial sectors. Requirements

  • Ability to understand detailed construction project plans, schedules, and estimates.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to calculate square footage, volumes, and percentages using a personal computer or calculator.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare and update project schedules, transmittals, and submittals using personal computer software.
  • Ability to manage large groups of personnel.
  • Ability to accomplish desired results through subordinate levels of management with little or no supervision.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in EPC Utility-Scale Solar construction and management of field personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the review of all assigned project schedules with Project Directors, Vice President of Pre-Construction, and project management teams to understand project plans, specifications, schedules, and bid proposals.
  • Delegate orientation for assigned Project Superintendent(s) and/or Foremen, outlining their specific project duties.
  • Coordinate all Superintendent assignments on the project, including staffing, and advise on scheduling, submittals (materials, RFIs, change orders, pay requests), and quality control.
  • Assist with the project submittal process as requested.
  • Confirm notification of subcontractors and suppliers to review project schedules.
  • Monitor potential changes to contracts, project conditions, and scope of work, providing documentation as requested.
  • Advise the Vice President/Area Manager and/or Project Manager of possible claims or disputes, providing documentation as requested.
  • Oversee the submission of required company documents (timesheets, delivery tickets, etc.) by Superintendents and/or Foremen.
  • Administer personnel issues of subordinates, including mediation and resolution of conflicts, involving the Vice President/Area Manager if necessary.
  • Consult with the Vice President/Area Manager regarding layoffs/terminations.
  • Demonstrate and promote positive attitudes, communicate and work respectfully with others, utilize and enforce adherence to proper intra-company communication channels, and clarify/enforce corporate and project-specific policies and procedures.
  • Obtain daily production information from Project Superintendent and/or Foremen and distribute to the Construction Manager weekly.
  • Monitor jobsite production rates to ensure bid productions and strategy are met.
  • Track the project schedule and keep the Project Manager informed of progress.
  • Discuss project equipment schedule projections with the Project Manager.
  • Attend all project Owner meetings.
  • Submit required information for the preparation of pay applications.
  • Review job cost reports with the Project Manager to ensure accuracy and address deviations from project estimations.
  • Attend project close-out meetings as requested.
  • Set employee expectations regarding personal development and succession planning.
  • Monitor all daily activities of assigned projects.
  • Provide direction and oversight to Project Superintendent(s) and/or Foremen regarding their specific project duties.
  • Consult with Project Superintendent(s) and/or Foremen on daily needs for manpower, equipment, layout, materials, and subcontractors.
  • Discuss manpower and equipment requirements, shortages, or changes with the Construction Manager.
  • Allocate resources as needed.
  • Coordinate daily line-up information for all assigned projects and report to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager regarding needs for field survey/engineering/GPS files.
  • Recognize equipment abuse and provide guidance to project superintendents, foremen, field maintenance personnel, and hourly employees.
  • Implement and comply with the company safety program with a positive attitude towards project safety for all personnel and the general public.
  • Communicate safety and compliance concerns to the Area Safety Director.
  • Report all incidents and/or accidents to the Area Safety Director and Project Manager immediately.
  • Complete post-accident/incident reports and forward them to the Safety Director immediately.
  • Facilitate and record weekly toolbox talks and complete project safety and compliance forms as required.
  • Perform daily safety jobsite walk-arounds and complete necessary documents as required by contract specifications.
