About The Position

The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is seeking a General Services Manager to work within the General Services division. This role will support the core functions of Facilities, Mailroom, Fleet, and Health and Safety administration across the agency’s three locations. DCWP's mission is to protect and enhance the daily economic lives of New Yorkers, license businesses, enforce consumer protection and workplace laws, and empower consumers and working families. The agency also conducts research and advocates for public policy. This position may be eligible for a compressed work schedule under the Flexible Work Pilot Program.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and five years of full-time paid experience requiring general knowledge of construction and construction costs, electronic data processing equipment, telephone communications systems, building standards and leasing procedures, in the evaluation and layout of space in office buildings, garages and other structures used for commercial and industrial purposes, at least two years of which shall have been of a supervisory nature; or
  • High school graduation or evidence of having passed an examination for a high school equivalency diploma or the U.S. Armed Forces G.E.D. certificate with a score of at least 35 on each of the five tests and an overall score of at least 225 in the examination for the diploma or certificate, plus nine years of full-time paid experience as described in (1) above, at least two years of which shall have been of a supervisory nature; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be high school graduates or possess the equivalent as described in (2) above and must have at least two years of supervisory experience as described in (1) above.
  • Permanent employees in the civil service title, comparable title (under 6.1.9), eligible for the 55a program, and those that are reachable in the civil service list are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the need for and provide Division management with a detailed plan for addressing necessary upgrades, repairs, and maintenance for all DCWP-occupied locations, including quotes, timelines, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct daily on-site inspections of contracted building cleaning services.
  • Perform light/moderate repairs as necessary.
  • Monitor and maintain the supply of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and alarm systems.
  • Coordinate mailing requests.
  • Assist with Fleet coordination as requested.
  • Work with building services/vendors on upgrades and repairs to building systems/property, such as HVAC, garbage collection/removal, painting, snow removal, extermination services, and landscaping.
  • Move desktops, phones, files, and other equipment for cubicle relocations.
  • Handle the process for decommissioning surplus and end-of-life equipment, furniture, and other items no longer being used by DCWP, acting as the primary point of contact with DCAS.
  • Monitor and maintain the warehouse inventory report.
  • Coordinate the transportation of items to and from the warehouse.
  • Organize the supply room and maintain an inventory report.
  • Accept and record deliveries of supplies and equipment.
  • Distribute supplies and work with DCWP divisions to ensure they are stocked as needed.
  • Perform other ad hoc assignments as requested by division management, including acting as back-up support for other functional units.
