Auto General Service Technician
About The Position
The General Service Technician performs basic automotive services, including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, vehicle inspections, and other less technical services while providing an excellent customer experience. The technician maintains clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department and may advise customers about, and sell them, recommended or required automotive services and repairs. The role involves learning to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems, keeping up with changing automotive technology through formal training, assisting other technicians, and following company policies and safety and environmental rules. The position requires availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed. The work may involve outdoor exposure and frequent lifting of equipment weighing over 100 pounds.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Passion for a career as a technician in the automotive industry.
- Eagerness to learn and a competitive drive to succeed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including frequent lifting of heavy equipment weighing over 100 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Learn to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems, including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling, and electrical systems.
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques through formal training to stay current with changing automotive technology.
- Change engine oil and filters.
- Install tires and perform tire maintenance.
- Install batteries and check starting and charging systems.
- Install headlights and other small bulbs.
- Repair flat tires.
- Install wiper blades.
- Stock and unload tires.
- Assist fellow technicians and mechanics with technical activities.
- Keep store management informed of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
- Clean and maintain an organized and neat shop.
- Follow company policies, procedures, safety rules, and environmental rules.
- Provide advice to customers and sell recommended or required automotive services and repairs when needed.
