About The Position

The General Manager position is responsible for day-to-day operations and leads multiple departments including Human Resources/Accounting, Building Grounds and Vehicles, Funeral Directors/Arrangers, Removal Staff (day and night)/EDRS Department, Staff Associates, Preparation Room Staff, and Night Staff. The role requires holding oneself and direct staff accountable for completing all company-assigned assignments, including compliance with OSHA, FTC, and Harassment prevention. The General Manager oversees all team members participating in services, ensuring each staff member understands their role and professionally represents the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in hospitality, hotel management, or business.
  • A minimum of 4 to 9 years of combined hospitality experience and business management.
  • Demonstrates business/management, customer service, and good managerial skills with staff.
  • Willingness to learn all aspects of funeral services.
  • Ability to lead and support customer satisfaction.
  • Works cohesively with staff and builds strong relationships with all staff to provide excellent customer service with empathy and kindness.
  • Compassionate and kind with families and staff but firm when there are needs or issues to be addressed.
  • Supports teamwork and staff working together to get things done and always striving to please the families served.
  • Detailed oriented.
  • Hardworking, with long-term goals.
  • Proactive in getting work done and works well with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid state-issued funeral director license.
  • Local person; a plus if born and raised or at least grew up in the SF Bay Area – preferably with SF and SM roots.

Responsibilities

  • Leads all labor-management components for the location’s staff, including scheduling, labor margins, overtime, and timecards/blue sheets.
  • Maintains excellent customer service standards, works with and directs managers and supervisors in all departments, acting as a company ambassador to the community and fostering team member development to create a high-performance, innovative, and family-oriented culture.
  • Interacts directly with client families, handling all aspects of the service and ensuring an excellent customer service experience.
  • Promotes and builds community relationships.
  • Ensures each family is presented with all service and merchandise options.
  • Holds weekly staff huddles/updates and quarterly full staff meetings.
  • Contributes to overall efficiency by maintaining open and effective communication, ensuring accurate and timely client files, and adhering to payment policies.
  • Maintains customer service standards and leads facility management, including working with building and grounds staff to ensure vehicles, the building, and grounds (landscaping, painting, parking lot) are adequately maintained and facilities look clean.
  • Leads and oversees staff to manage all financial components, including vendor relationships, accounts payable and receivable, labor management, and oversees balanced staff schedules and vacations.
  • Recruits, trains, and manages licensed funeral directors and funeral arrangers, preparation room staff, building and vehicle staff, funeral services, evening staff, and staff associates/EDRS personnel.
  • Oversees the location's Profit & Loss (P&L) and monitors annual budgets.
  • Works with the President annually to determine pricing for services and merchandise.
  • Ensures all services run on schedule and that the business remains fully compliant with state and federal regulations (e.g., permits, death certificates, and FTC rules).
