About The Position

Southland Co-op is seeking a General Manager (GM) to lead their team. The GM will have overall strategic, fiscal, and operational responsibility for the Co-op, including leadership and development of the leadership team. This role involves working with the Board of Directors to oversee management, develop strategy, goals, and objectives in alignment with the strategic plan. The Co-op is a $63.5 million cooperative with food stores, agro and home centres, gas bars, and petroleum goods and services across multiple branches in southern Saskatchewan, serving members since 1939.

Requirements

  • A degree in Business/Commerce with 10+ years of relevant experience, including 5+ years focusing on leading projects/people within the retail industry or CRS.
  • Experience in managing an operation/department, large budgets, projects, people, and processes.
  • Strong skills in overseeing detailed department operating budgets, timelines, people, and processes.
  • A reputation for being honest and trustworthy, results-oriented, and striving to be the best.
  • A commitment to building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions.
  • Recognition of the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.
  • Ability to complete a criminal background check, credit check, and provide a driver's abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with the Board to develop a strategy aligned with the Co-op’s vision, mission, and values, and translating it into tactical direction, goals/objectives, and initiatives.
  • Leading the development of the Co-op’s annual operating and capital budgets and ensuring efficient operation and adherence to the budget.
  • Overseeing the overall operation of the Co-op and ensuring the efficient utilization of resourcing and assets to achieve operational plans and business outcomes.
  • Providing leadership and maintaining a positive work environment that promotes engagement and development of all team members to support achievement of desired results and positive customer experience.
  • Building and enhancing relationships with members, customers, team members, and stakeholders.
