About The Position

The General Manager will be responsible for setting and executing the strategic direction of the organization, acting as the primary leader of the unit's safety culture, and evaluating, managing, and motivating direct reports with an emphasis on accountability, planning, organization, preparation, follow-up, and internal communication. This role drives the organization to exceed customer expectations for on-time delivery, quality, and responsiveness to engineering challenges. The General Manager will establish, monitor, and manage Key Performance Indicators for Manufacturing, Quality, and Inside Sales, and work closely with the Outside Sales organization to ensure the Business Unit provides credibility and marketplace support to capture market share. This position leads a culture of collaboration with all other functional areas, provides strong leadership to employees ensuring high morale, teamwork, and good employee relations, and actively participates in the annual budgeting process. Responsibilities include assessing capital needs, leading efforts to identify waste and inefficiency, developing and maintaining relationships with key customers, planning and implementing organizational policies, communicating performance expectations, developing employees for future advancement, and acting as a leader of the company culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of practical work experience
  • Must have senior management experience
  • Experience managing rapid growth
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and reinforcing a robust safety culture
  • Experience with Formal Safety training programs
  • A history of manufacturing in a highly-engineered environment where many opportunities are for non-standard products
  • Training in and management of Quality programs
  • Lean Manufacturing experience and success with Lean processes
  • Skill and historical success in recruiting new employees to support the strategic and growth plans of the company
  • Unique ability to assess new product/market/technology for its viability in the marketplace in terms of sales and profit potential
  • Sales management experience and demonstrable ability to grow revenue profitably
  • Excellent financial skills, with the ability to read, understand and manage Cash Flow, Income Statements, and Balance Sheets
  • Must have a solid grasp of ERP system(s) for product costing and understanding critical drivers of profitability by customer and part number.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to make quick and difficult decisions
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on innovative and creative solutions that result in higher profitability
  • Self-starter, who needs little direction and is highly motivated
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
  • Strategic outlook with tactical achievements

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or advanced technical degree
  • 5+ years in a senior management position within the Industry
  • Acquisition experience, including due diligence, integration planning and execution of an integration plan

Responsibilities

  • Participate in setting and executing the strategic direction of the organization

  • Drive the organization to exceed customer expectations for on-time delivery, quality and responsiveness to engineering challenges that may stretch the company’s capabilities to satisfy a unique customer challenge
  • Establish, monitor and manage Key Performance Indicators for Manufacturing, Quality and Inside Sales.
  • Work closely with the Outside Sales organization to ensure that the Business Unit is providing them the credibility and marketplace support to capture market share and dominate weaker and less responsive competitors
  • Lead a culture of collaboration with all other functional areas to ensure effective communication and teamwork
  • Provide strong leadership to employees ensuring high morale, teamwork and good employee relations, at all levels
  • Actively participate in the annual budgeting process, holding departments and individuals accountable for achieving budgeted results
  • Assess all capital needs, be they for growth or preventative maintenance, budget appropriately and ensure that the return on investment is presented in a professional and highly detailed manner
  • Lead the efforts to identify waste and inefficiency and develop actions to enhance productivity while reducing costs
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key executives at existing customers and work closely with Sales in closing new business
  • Plan, develop and implement organizational policies and procedures
  • Communicate clearly and directly with employees concerning performance expectations, productivity, and accountability
  • Develop employees for future advancement
  • Act as a leader of the company culture, demonstrating a commitment to the company’s vision and the spirit of the organization
