The General Manager – Portfolio Operations is the operational leader responsible for aligning property management, engineering, financial operations, capital planning, and strategic initiatives, acting as a representative in executive-level discussions with ownership and stakeholders. This role requires operational excellence, collaboration, and strategic thinking, and reports directly to the Executive Vice President, contributing to the portfolio's future and team development.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) or more years of progressive leadership experience in property management, commercial real estate, mixed-use developments, hospitality, or comparable operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple departments and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and contract management.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with executive leadership, ownership groups, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the overall management and performance of the portfolio.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies that align with ownership objectives and organizational goals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead organizational planning that supports future portfolio growth and operational excellence.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a multidisciplinary management team including Property Managers, Assistant Property Managers, Building Engineering leadership, and operational support personnel.
  • Develop future leaders and build succession plans.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and drive accountability and ownership.
  • Empower managers to make sound business decisions.

  • Serve as the primary operational representative between the property management organization and ownership.
  • Participate in executive planning and cross-functional initiatives including development and construction transitions, design review coordination, capital improvement planning, landscape and public realm enhancements, lighting and placemaking initiatives, infrastructure planning, operational readiness for new assets, and portfolio-wide special projects.
  • Provide operational expertise that supports informed decision-making while ensuring strategic initiatives are effectively implemented.
  • Develop strong partnerships across multiple business disciplines to ensure organizational alignment and successful execution of strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with Executive Leadership, Property Management, Building Engineering, Accounting, Development, Construction, Design, Vendors, and Service Partners.
  • Serve as the operational bridge between departments while promoting communication, accountability, and shared success.
  • Provide executive oversight of the portfolio's financial operations by partnering closely with the accounting team to ensure annual operating budgets, forecasting, financial reporting, reserve planning, capital expenditures, contract administration, expense management, and financial performance.
  • Develop financial strategies that support operational objectives while protecting the long-term value of the portfolio.
  • Build trusted relationships with ownership, executive leadership, and key business partners.
  • Represent the organization with professionalism while providing strategic recommendations, operational updates, performance reporting, risk assessment, long-term operational planning, and business solutions that support ownership objectives.
