About The Position

Our client is a well-established and highly respected mechanical contractor with a long-standing reputation for delivering complex mechanical systems across commercial and industrial markets. The company manages projects ranging from focused mechanical installations to large-scale, technically demanding work, with a culture built around quality craftsmanship, long-term client relationships, and employee development. With continued growth and a strong backlog of work, the company is seeking an experienced leader to oversee and grow its mechanical contracting operation. The General Manager will have overall responsibility for the performance and growth of the operation, with full P&L ownership across revenue, profitability, backlog, and operating expenses. This leader will oversee estimating, project management, field operations, service, and administrative functions while establishing the strategy and organizational structure needed for continued growth. The ideal candidate brings a strong commercial mechanical construction background, with experience across HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal. Candidates with deep expertise in a single mechanical trade and proven operational leadership experience will also be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience within commercial mechanical construction with full P&L responsibility
  • Background in estimating, project management, field operations, or another construction operations function
  • Strong financial acumen, including WIP, job cost, backlog, overhead, cash flow, and profitability management
  • Proven ability to grow revenue while improving or maintaining profitability
  • Established relationships with general contractors, owners, engineers, and other key industry partners
  • Experience leading multiple departments and developing high-performing leadership teams

Nice To Haves

  • Service operations experience is a plus
  • Experience with Viewpoint, Procore, Microsoft Office, ERP platforms, and construction job-cost systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own the operation's full P&L, including revenue, gross margin, overhead, and profitability
  • Develop and execute annual business plans, budgets, and long-term growth strategies
  • Lead estimating, project management, field operations, service, and administrative teams
  • Drive business development and strengthen relationships with owners, general contractors, and engineers
  • Approve major bids, establish pricing strategies, and manage contractual and project risk
  • Lead monthly WIP and job-cost reviews, monitoring margin fade, cash flow, backlog, and overall project performance
  • Report financial and operational results to ownership or the parent company
  • Establish and maintain a strong safety culture across the operation
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing talent while building succession plans for key leadership positions
  • Expand service and recurring revenue opportunities alongside construction operations
  • Improve processes, systems, and operational efficiency throughout the business
  • Represent the company within the local market, industry associations, and community
