About The Position

As a General Transportation Manager, you will lead transportation operations within a Walmart Supply Chain facility, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely movement of freight while delivering exceptional service to stores, clubs, and customers. You will oversee operational performance, financial management, associate development, transportation strategy, and continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and belonging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance, or related field and 3 years’ supervisory experience in a senior management role within an operation, distribution, supply chain, or retail environment OR 5 years’ supervisory experience in a senior management role in an operations, distribution, supply chain, or retail environment.
  • Experience leading transportation, logistics, supply chain, distribution, or fleet operations.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to develop teams and drive results.
  • Experience managing budgets, operational metrics, and performance goals.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and effectively resolve complex operational challenges.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Experience leading through change in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day transportation activities for a transportation office or facility.
  • Ensure operational goals, service levels, safety expectations, and key performance indicators are achieved.
  • Balance inbound and outbound freight flows while optimizing resources and transportation capacity.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to maintain efficient supply chain operations.
  • Manage facility budgets, expenses, and asset utilization to support operational and financial goals.
  • Review and analyze business performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and execute business plans that support transportation and supply chain strategies.
  • Remove operational barriers and implement solutions that improve efficiency and service.
  • Partner with the Transportation Command Center and Emergency Operations teams to support business continuity during weather events, emergencies, and other disruptions.
  • Coordinate alternative transportation resources and routing solutions to ensure the continued flow of freight in affected regions.
  • Make strategic decisions regarding resource allocation during emergency situations.
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams of associates and frontline leaders.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, training, and performance feedback to support career growth and operational excellence.
  • Create a culture of belonging where associates feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, succession planning, and talent development efforts.
  • Resolve escalated associate, driver, customer, and supplier concerns through effective problem solving and collaboration.
  • Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Communicate business priorities and operational expectations clearly and effectively.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, service, and cost performance.
  • Lead the adoption of new technology, systems, and processes that enhance operational effectiveness.
