About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for inspecting and identifying areas, equipment, or machines in need of repair. This role involves troubleshooting issues, planning repair work using blueprints or equipment manuals, and performing general repairs such as drywall, painting, and fixture repair. The position also includes routine maintenance on building systems, facility upkeep, and providing assistance to inmates in case of injury or illness. Additionally, the worker will order supplies and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
Valid driver’s license.
Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
Frequent grasping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.

Nice To Haves

Experience in correctional setting is highly desirable.
Heating/Air Conditioning experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Plans repair work using the building's blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician (e.g., repairing drywall, painting, repairing doors and other building fixtures).
Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
Ensures prompt and appropriate assistance to inmates in the event of injury, illness, and emotional trauma.
Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
