About The Position

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for planting, maintaining, and enhancing campus landscape beds. Duties include pruning, planting, weeding, bed cleanup, and irrigation. The position also involves performing maintenance and repairs on commercial and residential plumbing, heating, and electrical equipment. This includes learning and observing all safety regulations, working from heights, rebuilding/replacing/repairing/troubleshooting electrical motors, pumps, and fans, and assisting in steam and condensate pipe repairs, shoveling, and working in adverse conditions. The role also includes repairing and installing various types of flooring, performing carpentry duties, and participating in remodeling and construction tasks such as framing, sheetrock, painting, and finish work. Additionally, the General Maintenance Worker will supervise student workers and take weekly on-call shifts for grounds duties.

Requirements

• One-year of Grounds experience.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Computer skills.
• Experience and knowledge operating general construction power and hand tools.
• Ability to read and write basic English.
• Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Familiarity with common grounds methods: Mowing, Line trimming, Edging, Irrigation, pruning, planting.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds easily.
• Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment and furnishings.
• Must be able to climb ladders and work from heights of 20 ft. or more.
• Must be able to spend hours at a time weeding planter beds.
• Mechanical abilities.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Must be self-motivated.
• Must be able to work in harsh conditions such as hot and cold weather, loud areas, and confined spaces.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
• Familiarity with common Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical practices.

Nice To Haves

• Flower and shrub care experience preferred.
• Basic plumbing knowledge preferred.
• Some supervisory experience desired.
• Willing to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, coworkers, and students.
• Willing to work weekends.
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist in day-to-day plumbing and heating repairs or preventive maintenance.
• Keep accurate records.
