About The Position

This position provides efficient, quality services on the MSUM campus to ensure academic programming can take place in a clean and safe environment. As determined by management, this position is essential during weather and other emergency periods as declared by the Commissioner of Employee Relations or the University President.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend Safety Data Sheets and follow safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of all cleaning materials.
  • Ability to determine cleaning materials and use them effectively.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs to buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive bending and/or twisting, reaching overhead, lift up to 50 pounds, kneel frequently, sweep and mop, and work in enclosed areas.
  • Ability to work on ladders/scaffolding.
  • Must be in good physical health and endurance.
  • Ability to use an email system.
  • Must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States by the day employment begins.

Nice To Haves

  • Employees must operate equipment in a manner consistent with manufacturer's instructions, equipment includes (but is not limited to) buffers, scrubbers, sweepers, burnishers, vacuum cleaners, and extractors.
  • Pool certification and/or the ability to perform pool chemical checks.

Responsibilities

  • Clean restrooms/locker rooms to maintain a sanitary, hygienic condition, including emptying trash, cleaning and disinfecting fixtures, refilling dispensers, spot cleaning surfaces, sweeping/scrubbing/mopping floors, pressure washing weekly, and monitoring floor drains daily.
  • Clean offices, classrooms, hallways, public lounges, and other campus areas by emptying trash, vacuuming/sweeping/scrubbing/mopping floors, spot cleaning carpets and walls, dusting surfaces, cleaning whiteboards/blackboards, spot cleaning interior windows and doors, dusting/sweeping/mopping stairways, cleaning water fountains, and removing trash from grounds surrounding building exteriors.
  • Monitor equipment, light fixtures, and general building conditions for safety and functionality, performing minor repairs as able, entering notes in the Preventative Maintenance System (SharePoint/FMX), informing supervisors of actions, working with supervisors to determine needed parts, completing assigned tasks, replacing light bulbs, and creating work orders for issues requiring external attention or equipment repairs.
  • Perform restorative tasks such as extracting carpets, scrubbing/stripping/refinishing floors, cleaning light fixtures, vents, desktops, walls, and windows, and ensuring recyclables are maintained in an orderly fashion.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations defined by city, federal, state, and university codes, maintain secularity as needed, follow safety and environmental rules, read and understand Safety Data Sheets, and complete yearly safety training.
  • Perform other related General Maintenance Worker duties as needed, including checking email, EMS, and work orders daily, managing inventory and supplies, ordering supplies weekly, cleaning, shoveling, and de-icing building entries, recording work performed on the Entrance log, assisting with special tasks like moving furniture, delivering supplies, and setting up/tearing down for campus activities, assisting in covering other areas through crossover assignments, understanding job functions and their relation to department and institution goals, and performing pool chemical checks/tests and adding chemicals as directed/needed.
