About The Position

Tessera is seeking a hard-working and dedicated General Maintenance Worker with a positive attitude. This role is responsible for a variety of tasks including building and grounds maintenance, assisting skilled trades, and customer interaction. The position requires the ability to operate various power tools and equipment, communicate effectively with customers and schedulers, and perform tasks such as snow removal, trash pickup, and pest control. Tessera is a national non-profit, government contractor dedicated to "Creating Opportunities for People with Disabilities" and is committed to providing a safe and respectful work environment.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of facilities maintenance experience preferred.
  • Valid forklift certification or the ability to obtain one required.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, occasionally in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
  • A Department of Energy (DOE) pre-employment medical examination and drug screening are required.
  • Candidates must meet federal guidelines in order to be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Applying touch-up paint, painting structures or buildings, replacing windows, changing door fixtures, and repairing or replacing paneling.
  • Assisting skilled workers in performing various electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or masonry work.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Operating power tools such as circular saws, miter saws, reciprocating saws, hand drills, impact drills, hand saws, routers, chain saws, etc., in a safe manner.
  • Operating a forklift to move materials.
  • Operating a vehicle with a trailer attached.
  • Communicating and interacting directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.
  • Responding to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Ensuring completed work meets quality control standards.
  • Making difficult diagnoses and suggesting solutions and repairs to the customer.
  • Communicating with the scheduler to update the status of repairs and estimate completion dates.
  • Removing snow and ice to maintain clear and safe sidewalks (~800 feet), two-way roadways (~1200 feet), parking areas (~200 vehicles), emergency exits, and fire hydrants. Roadways and walkways shall be treated as needed to ensure safety.
  • Picking-up and disposing of trash, debris, cigarette butts, and litter including around all trash dumpsters, loading docks, and patios daily.
  • Policing all range facility for debris. This includes sorting and removal of all expended small arms brass casings after live fire operations.
  • Providing services required to protect health, supplies, grounds, and real property with regard to control of insects, rodents, and other pests.
  • Maintaining professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.
