About The Position

The General Maintenance Technician carries out preventative and corrective maintenance activities on hotel equipment, cabins, and tools. The Technician is responsible for building maintenance activities involving equipment, gym, cabin and is required to perform annual, quarterly, and monthly preventative maintenance activities. All responsibilities shall be carried out in a timely, accurate, and professional manner, in accordance with YOTEL’s core values.

Requirements

  • Reads and understands MEP blueprints, wiring diagrams
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 3 years trade related experience and/or training in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry and building maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have hands on knowledge of building mechanical systems and controls, energy management and building maintenance skills.
  • Basic knowledge of painting, drywall, HVAC and plumbing
  • General knowledge of machines and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate well with guests and staff.
  • Ability to add and subtract multiply and divide.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Must have upper body strength to lift 50lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift.
  • Must have leg strength and ability to crawl into and through small spaces, climb ladders, support and carry loads of 50lbs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15-25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and sometimes in outside weather conditions.
  • The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock and is required to properly operate hand tools.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and personal protective equipment is to be used when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one to two years of experience in hotel or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attend to guest requests, inquiries and complaints and refers unresolved issues to supervisor or Manager on Duty in a timely manner.
  • Perform preventive/predictable maintenance and necessary repairs on all hotel equipment with minimum down time, including, laundry, boiler, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, meeting rooms and guest rooms.
  • Maintain the information in a shop log or document the assignment through the work order system.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
  • Performs minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities, using hand tools and power tools to ensure smooth operations of HVAC, refrigeration, natural gas.
  • Installs and replaces lighting fixtures and bulbs.
  • Maintain shop areas, spare parts areas, storage areas and inventories of materials, equipment and associated parts of the trade.
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discuss machine operations variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Installs and repairs electrical wiring and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure the daily inventory of the department’s tools and equipment issued to employee is completed prior to completion of the shift.
  • Fabricates and repairs furniture and fixture.
  • Respond to all emergency situations including fire alarms, disasters, power failures, etc. and assist as needed.
  • Ensure that services are coordinated to provide the best in guest satisfaction by maintaining contact via telephone or radio with other departments such as Reception and Housekeeping.
  • Assists in delivering and set-up of all new equipment such as televisions, mattresses, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Notify management concerning need for major repairs and report out-of-the ordinary issues and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Engineering and the General Manager.
