About The Position

The General Maintenance 1 performs semi-skilled and skilled preventive maintenance, alterations, and repairs to buildings and equipment. The role repairs general electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, as well as apparatus and components of commercial machinery and equipment. Other duties may be assigned as needed. This is a full-time, varied-schedule position in Facilities Management.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license at the time of hire.
• Able to identify color-coded electrical and mechanical components and detect odors, vibrations, and surface characteristics that indicate equipment status or malfunction.
• Able to move with agility to transport equipment and maintain the hand and finger dexterity needed for basic maintenance tasks.
• Able to follow general safety protocols.
• Able to read, write legibly, and communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and by telephone.
• Able to work professionally with colleagues and Medical Center employees, with limited supervision, and with sensitivity to the patient care environment.
• Able to communicate positively and professionally, work calmly under pressure, respond courteously, lead, supervise, teach, collaborate, and accept direction.
• Able to perform basic math and calculate percentages, area, circumference, and volume; use common sense to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
• Able to organize and prioritize workload, identify problems and solutions, make recommendations, manage time, and plan and implement objectives.
• Able to distinguish colors, hear sufficiently for general conversation and workplace sounds, and see well enough to read computer screens and necessary written documents.

• Minimum one year of related experience preferred.
