About The Position

Winpak Lane Inc. is seeking safety-conscious, detail-oriented General Machinists I to join our Manufacturing team in Rialto, California. This role performs conventional/manual machining and preparation operations using approved work orders, engineering drawings, standard work, and inspection requirements. Team members operate only equipment for which they are qualified. CNC setup, operation, and programming are not required for this job family.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Vocational training in machining, machine-shop practices, blueprint reading, or a related trade is preferred.
  • Relevant manufacturing or machine-shop experience is helpful; years of service or experience alone do not determine level placement.
  • Placement at Level I or Level II requires validated competency through the approved skills matrix, practical assessment, and supervisor review.
  • Knowledge of conventional machine-shop equipment, hand tools, cutting tools, fixtures, presses, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to read work orders, basic engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, revision information, and standard work.
  • Basic shop math skills, including fractions, decimals, unit conversions, and dimensional calculations used in manual machining.
  • Ability to use approved measuring devices within current qualification.
  • Ability to identify materials and parts, verify orientation and quantity, protect finished surfaces, and maintain traceability.
  • Ability to perform basic in-process inspection, recognize nonconforming or unsafe conditions, stop work when appropriate, and escalate promptly.
  • Clear communication, coachability, sound judgment, teamwork, and willingness to cross-train.
  • Ability to regularly use hands to handle tools, controls, materials, and parts and to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and communicate throughout the workday.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Close vision, depth perception, hearing, and motor coordination appropriate for manual machining and inspection.
  • Ability to work safely around noise, moving machinery, sharp edges, flying debris, overhead work, stored energy, and moderate temperature changes while using required PPE.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with conventional/manual machine-shop equipment and preparation operations.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, revision information, and standard work.
  • Experience using calipers/verniers, tape measures, dial indicators, test indicators, and other approved measuring devices.

Responsibilities

  • Review work orders, current drawing revisions, materials, tooling, machine condition, and inspection requirements before starting assigned work.
  • Set up and operate conventional/manual equipment within current qualification limits, including lathes, mills, hones, drill presses, saws, retapping equipment, presses, straightening equipment, and deburring tools.
  • Select and use appropriate workholding, tools, speeds, feeds, and operating settings; verify safe machine condition before use.
  • Perform deburring, tapping, drilling, sawing, pressing, straightening, honing, basic turning or milling, and related preparation operations as qualified.
  • Measure and inspect work using approved devices, document required results, and verify completed work meets drawing and work-order requirements.
  • Load, unload, move, count, identify, mark, tag, and protect raw materials, work-in-process, and finished parts using approved handling methods.
  • Stop work, identify or segregate suspect material, and promptly escalate safety, quality, drawing, material, tooling, or equipment concerns.
  • Complete production, labor, transaction, count, and inspection records accurately.
  • Perform daily equipment checks, operator maintenance, housekeeping, tool control, and 5S activities; report abnormal equipment conditions.
  • Participate in cross-training and support other qualified work centers as business needs require.
  • Follow all company policies, PPE requirements, safe work practices, energy-control rules, and quality procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
