About The Position

The General Liability Attorney Represented Consultant investigates, analyzes, manages, evaluates and negotiates moderate value litigated and non-litigated Publix general liability claims. The incumbent oversees and directs Defense Counsel on litigation strategies, presents files to the Risk Management Senior Leadership Team for review, and attends mediations and trials in suit jurisdictions. In Publix’s corporate offices, we value in-person interactions, similar to those our store associates have with customers. Many of Publix’s corporate offices offer work from home up to one day a week. Each business area implements their policy differently and should be discussed during interviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline or in the alternative, a high school diploma with 5 years of claims experience
• three (3) years of liability claims handling experience
• ability to obtain Florida All Lines Adjuster License upon hire as well as reciprocal licenses for all the states that Publix operates in
• knowledge of general insurance adjusting procedures, rules and ethics
• superior knowledge of jurisdiction specific civil and case law
• superior knowledge of claims evaluation
• knowledge of litigation defense tactics
• knowledge of medical and dental terminology
• knowledge of depreciation values
• knowledge of customer base in the areas of operations
• superior analytical skills
• high level of negotiating skills
• superior organizational and time management skills
• ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information
• high degree of maturity, discretion, tact, and independent judgment
• basic knowledge of Microsoft Office ( Word, Excel, Outlook)
• willingness to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• willingness to travel including overnight

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline
• four (4) or more years of liability claims handling experience including litigation
• CCLA, SCLA, or CPCU designation
• Actively holds Florida All Lines Adjuster’s License
• knowledge of general claims computer software
• knowledge of Publix’s policies, procedures, and corporate structure
• bilingual, preferably Spanish

Responsibilities

• Conducts initial investigations and reviews information pertaining to individual claims.
• Strategizes and develops litigations plans based on the information provided by Defense Counsel.
• Reviews demand packages, attorney letters, CCTV’s and other information from the store that could result in changes to the file.
• Completes demand reviews and negotiations/settlements of claims.
• Oversees and directs Defense Counsel on litigation strategies.
• Presents files to the Risk Management Senior Leadership Team for review.
• Attends mediations and trials in suit jurisdictions.
