About The Position

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking a General Ledger (GL) Accountant. The main purpose of this position is to monitor, review and analyze daily revenue and expense transactions that are posted to the State Financial Management Information System (FMIS) in accordance with State accounting procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) guidelines. Ensure accuracy and consistency of the general ledger transactions between MDOT FMIS and STATE RSTARS by performing monthly reconciliation. The GL Accountant’s primary responsibilities of this position are to record in FMIS and process all accounts receivable invoices, manage the daily deposits and reconcile over $500 million in revenue, and reconcile the general ledger accounts valued at $1.5 billion maintained in both MDOT and State FMIS to assure accurate reporting based on preparation of financial reports for monthly and year-end closings. The GL Accountant analyzes and interprets accounting processes, records, and reports to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Six years of experience in professional accounting experience performing general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, accounts receivable, or other accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Two (2) years of experience must have included using State of Maryland Financial Management Information System (FMIS), RSTARS, or comparable enterprise financial management systems.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher-ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
