About The Position

The General Ledger Accountant for Tribal Government will be responsible for managing and overseeing the general ledger accounting functions for the Tribe. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and efficient financial operations.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of professional level experience as an Accountant
  • Two (2) years’ experience with an automated accounting system (sage).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in governmental accounting, particularly with tribal governments, is a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and prepare detailed reconciliations explaining account balances.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure accurate coding of financial transactions.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with tribal policies.
  • Process expense transfer requests and assist with accounting queries and reconciliations.
  • Allocate monthly insurance and other costs appropriately.
  • Generate monthly reports for Program Managers and quarterly reports for the Executive Committee, along with detailed reports upon request.
  • Provide support for accounting software issues, resolving errors and documenting solutions.
  • Stay updated on accounting standards relevant to tribal government operations.
  • Assist with annual audits and implement audit recommendations.
  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring, providing financial insights to management.
  • Assists in the preparation of financial reports for tribal council meetings and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
