GENERAL LABORER
About The Position
The General Laborer supports daily plant operations by maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the manufacturing facility. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that production areas remain free of debris, waste, and safety hazards, allowing manufacturing teams to focus on efficient and uninterrupted production of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. Key responsibilities include handling steel chip hoppers, emptying trash, sweeping and mopping shop areas, maintaining restrooms and cafeteria spaces, and ensuring outside areas such as parking lots and pallet storage are kept orderly. The General Laborer also performs regular walk-throughs to proactively address housekeeping needs and maintain compliance with company cleanliness and safety standards. This position requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision. The General Laborer must be comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment, performing physically active duties, and adhering to safety protocols at all times. By supporting shop cleanliness and material handling, the General Laborer contributes directly to the plant’s efficiency, safety, and overall operational success.
Requirements
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Ability to be self-motivated
- Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Empty steel chip hoppers from machines to maintain clean and safe production areas.
- Sweep and mop shop floors, cafeteria, restrooms, and other designated areas on a routine basis.
- Empty garbage cans throughout the facility and transfer contents into trash hoppers for disposal.
- Maintain outside areas of the facility, including sweeping the parking lot and removing/discarding old pallets.
- Perform routine walk-throughs of the facility to monitor cleanliness, organization, and overall shop condition.
- Assist in keeping aisles, workstations, and common areas free of debris and safety hazards.
- Ensure cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment are properly stored and maintained in working condition.
- Report any maintenance or safety concerns observed during cleaning or material-handling duties.
- Support production staff and supervisors by responding to requests for additional cleaning or material-handling tasks as needed.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe material-handling practices.
