About The Position

The General Laborer assists in the performance of a variety of plant activities from clean-up, stick laying, packaging, maintenance support, etc. This role involves performing a variety of routine physical labor tasks in areas such as maintenance, stacking, kilns, shipping, receiving, treating, and yard maintenance. The position requires adherence to environmental and safety procedures, understanding assigned tasks, and performing cleanup at the end of the day or when a job is completed. Additional duties may include operating mobile equipment, attending training sessions, and performing basic computer tasks.

Requirements

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
Ability to take direction and learn in a hands-on environment.
Ability to safely operate mobile equipment.
Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
Ability to demonstrate behaviors conforming to Hoover’s set of values and accepted standards.
Ability to be self-motivated to perform a task using his or her own drive or initiative.
Basic computer skills with an ability to learn.

Nice To Haves

Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance is encouraged.

Responsibilities

Ensure all environmental and safety procedures are followed and report all unsafe or non-compliant activities.
Performs a variety of routine physical labor tasks, as assigned. Areas could include maintenance, stacking, kilns, shipping, receiving, treating, yard maintenance.
Understand the job assigned and ask questions if uncertain.
Perform cleanup at the end of the day or when the job is completed, including picking up tools, spills, and debris, cleaning work areas and performing touch-up work as needed.
Perform Fire Watch duties as needed to support the maintenance team.
May operate a vehicle, forklift, or tractor.
Attend all training sessions and safety meetings.
Computer duties as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
