About The Position

Under general or direct supervision, the General Laborer performs one or more types of work, including typical duties in the Line Maintenance, Metering and Regulating, Customer Service, or Administrative divisions. Trainees may be assigned to any division of the Company. The role may also include incidental clerical duties and other related or less-skilled work as directed. This is a union position governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Requirements

• Be able to read, understand, and communicate work instructions, safety procedures, customer information, and other job-related information at a level sufficient to perform the position safely and effectively.
• Have completed high school or obtained a high school equivalency diploma recognized by New York State.
• Be familiar with the Company's Safety Rules and able to provide practical first aid.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's license when driving is required to perform essential job functions.
• Be able to perform physical activities necessary for assigned work, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, standing, walking, and working outdoors or in adverse conditions.
• Be able to distinguish colors when necessary to safely perform an essential job function.
• Demonstrate honesty, integrity, reliability, and appropriate handling of Company and customer information and property.
• Be willing to work irregular and/or additional hours as required.
• Be willing to work under unusual or special conditions and in surroundings associated with the position, as well as under normal working conditions.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area and appearance.
• Following a conditional offer, may be required to undergo a job-related medical examination consistent with applicable law.
