About The Position

The General Laborer is responsible for performing labor tasks within and around the plant. This role assists in the manufacturing of Rich's products by working on production lines, performing tasks such as re-casing, repackaging, and other product rework as assigned. The position requires adherence to all safety, GMP, quality, and food safety requirements, maintaining a clean work area, and preparing materials and equipment for production. Specific tasks include shaving chocolate, feeding pans and trays, greasing pans, applying shipping labels, garnishing, crumbling, applying collars and domes to products, inspecting cake quality, preparing bread, weighing and spreading cakes, and filling cakes, all while maintaining production speed and quality standards. The role also involves ensuring accurate printing of production codes and labels, verifying correct packaging and materials, reading and changing coder machines, and properly storing unused materials at the end of the shift.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, other employees in the organization and vendors.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to Production Improvement Teams and other temporary teams as assigned or as a volunteer.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to conduct basic troubleshooting to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability and desire to train other associates.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Prepare chocolate by shaving it and ensuring it is readily available for production.
  • Feed pans and trays to the production line while maintaining the speed of the line.
  • Grease pans on the production line while maintaining the speed of the line and properly applying the appropriate amount of grease.
  • Apply shipping labels on the shipper at the determined rate.
  • Garnish products while maintaining the speed of the line and standard of quality.
  • Crumb products at the speed of the line while maintaining the standard of quality.
  • Apply the collar to products at the speed of the line while maintaining the standard of quality.
  • Apply domes to the products at the speed of the line, ensuring sufficient domes are readily available.
  • Inspect the quality of the cakes.
  • Prepare bread at the speed of the line while maintaining the standard of quality.
  • Weigh and spread every cake at the speed of the line while maintaining the standard of quality.
  • Fill the cakes at the speed of the line while maintaining the standard of quality and weight of the product.
  • Prepare and maintain materials and equipment at the start, during, and end of production.
  • Ensure that all production codes and labels are printed accurately and legibly per product specifications.
  • Ensure that all packaging and materials are correct according to the SKU formula and integrity of appearance.
  • Read codes and change coder machines when needed.
  • Reseal and return unused materials to the designated location in the warehouse following standard procedures at the end of the production day.
  • Turn off and clean all coding and taping machines in preparation for the following shift.
