About The Position

This General Labor position is located in a lumber treating facility, where the incumbent will perform a variety of tasks and provide assistance as needed. Key responsibilities include operating specialized equipment such as splitting, stacking, and delathing machinery for lumber materials. The role also involves accurately identifying and tagging lumber units with barcodes and placards, as well as packaging them for customer shipping. A strong emphasis is placed on safety, requiring the completion of safety forms, adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, compliance with all safety policies, and reporting of any incidents or unsafe conditions. Maintaining a clean and organized work environment by sweeping, picking up debris, and shoveling is also a crucial part of the job.

Requirements

  • Language skills to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively and professionally to customers or employees of an organization.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate industrial equipment.
  • Proven reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior manufacturing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Run the splitter equipment to divide incoming lumber packs into smaller sizes for the treating process.
  • Operate stacker equipment to place lathe sticks between layers of lumber or plywood in preparation for the lumber treating process.
  • Utilize the delather equipment to remove lathe sticks from lumber layers after treating the lumber units.
  • Identify different sizes of plywood and lumber accurately, and match barcodes to appropriate lumber units.
  • Apply barcode tags and placards to lumber units, using a bander or a pneumatic or electric stapling gun, and a ladder when necessary.
  • Package lumber units with wrapping material and place pilers and loading sticks on the bagged material for customer shipping.
  • Complete required safety forms, checklists, and permits.
  • Perform lockout/tagout procedures as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures and policies, and work together with co-workers to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Report all near misses, incidents, or potentially unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
  • Ensure clean work areas by sweeping floors, picking up broken pieces of lumber, shoveling, and disposing of material or debris.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
