About The Position

The General Foreman plays a critical leadership role in overseeing and coordinating construction projects to ensure they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This position requires managing multiple teams of skilled tradespeople, subcontractors, and laborers while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. The General Foreman acts as the primary point of contact on-site, facilitating communication between project managers, clients, and field personnel to resolve issues promptly. They are responsible for planning daily work schedules, allocating resources efficiently, and monitoring progress to meet project milestones. Ultimately, the General Foreman ensures that all aspects of the construction site operate smoothly, fostering a productive and safe work environment that supports the successful delivery of projects across the United States.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or technical certification in construction management is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role within the construction industry, preferably as a foreman or assistant foreman.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, safety regulations, and building codes applicable in the United States.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between job sites as needed.
  • Technical knowledge and leadership skills to coordinate complex construction activities and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Effective communication skills for liaising between project managers, subcontractors, and crew members.
  • Strong organizational abilities to develop efficient work schedules and manage resources.
  • Problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges on-site.
  • Proficiency with construction management software and blueprint reading.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety and Health or equivalent safety training.
  • Experience with project management software such as Procore, PlanGrid, or Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing large, complex construction projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction crews and subcontractors on-site to ensure adherence to project plans and specifications.
  • Develop and implement daily and weekly work schedules, assigning tasks to team members based on skill sets and project priorities.
  • Monitor job site safety protocols, conduct regular inspections, and enforce compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to communicate progress, identify potential delays, and propose solutions.
  • Manage materials, equipment, and labor resources to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate the performance of foremen and crew members to promote skill development and teamwork.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, incidents, and resource usage for reporting and auditing purposes.
  • Address and resolve on-site conflicts or issues promptly to maintain a positive and efficient work environment.
