About The Position

The Underground General Foreman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The General Foreman ensures projects are completed in a safe and timely manner. Effectively plans ahead anticipating issues and project needs to accomplish Company and crew goals. Provides optimum customer service to his employees and customers.

Requirements

  • 5-year minimum of recent field experience.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Understand flag and tag procedures.
  • Must possess a CDL and demonstrate safe driving.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.
  • Supervises crew members.
  • Lead and train lower skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures.
  • Lead and teach hot stick work on energized lines.
  • Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings.
  • Stringing underground wire.
  • Setting poles and anchors.
  • Installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot problems and supervises troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems.
  • Replace cutout fuses and clears faulted circuits and systems.
  • Ensure Company vehicles, equipment and tools are maintained in good working conditions.
  • Comply with Company reporting procedures and completing required Company paperwork.
  • Coordinate and inspect the work of crew members.
  • Properly sag wire.
  • Properly phase a circuit through a substation.
  • Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
  • Understand grounding procedures.
  • Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
  • Properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
  • Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so.
  • Safely operate equipment.
  • Phase out a line using phasing sticks.
  • Plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
  • Obtain a one shot on a recloser.
  • Safely perform a reconductoring job.
  • Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
  • Use a load bust tool.
  • Properly ask for and take line clearances.
  • Inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  • Perform all other related work as required to complete the job.
