About The Position

The Underground Foreman position is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role involves working safely on new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized underground work. The Foreman is responsible for coaching crew members, possessing a working knowledge of leadership and management skills, and capable of leading and training lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures. They will also lead and teach underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks, conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings, and possess a working knowledge of all aspects of underground distribution. This role involves troubleshooting problems on underground circuits, frequently working with and around energized high voltage systems, and maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools. The Foreman must comply with company reporting procedures, coordinate and inspect the work of crew members, and be able to perform rigorous physical labor. They must be able to identify primary and secondary voltage, be familiar with induced voltage, and possess knowledge of tools for terminating cable, grounding procedures, and obtaining a one-shot on a reclosure. The role requires the capability to work in confined spaces, properly install and remove PPE and cover-up, test and classify soil, and safely operate equipment. Understanding how to phase out a line using phasing sticks, plan safe work based on a job print or work order, and understand sloping and shoring requirements are also essential. The Foreman needs a working knowledge of ladder requirements, the ability to properly ask for and take line clearances, identify and locate underground pulling equipment, and possess a working knowledge of line protection devices. They must be able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE, understand flag and tag procedures, work outside in inclement weather, and be willing to glove/work live high voltage distribution lines. All other related work required to complete the job will also be performed.

Requirements

  • 5-year minimum of recent field experience
  • 2 years in a leadership position.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must possess a CDL and demonstrates safe driving.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
  • Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.
