Clinical faculty are responsible for direct patient care and mentoring/teaching students. They initiate and guide student doctor/patient interactions, assist in transitions to clinical practice, and provide guidance and direction in patient care by monitoring student performance, treatment planning, and progress. They also model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques, and assist in solving patient-related problems. Clinical faculty assist the Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) in reviewing student performance related to quality and quantity of clinical care, practice and patient resources, individual roster and group progress, ability to establish and reach patient treatment goals, and determination of individual student needs and time utilization. They are responsible for assuring accuracy of student clinical notes, approving student procedural codes, and evaluating students on preparedness, professionalism, and promptness. They also handle discharging and transferring clinical responsibilities, monitor unapproved notes and treatments, report misconduct, maintain calibration, ensure clinical protocols and infection control compliance, complete reviews of student activity, and aid in the supervision of clinical examinations. Additionally, they attend meetings with their CPL, clinical faculty meetings, and may serve on relevant clinical committees.
