About The Position

This role is for a casual RN who cares for patients before, during, and after angiography, interventional, angiographic cardiac catheterization procedures, and other diagnostic testing and procedures. This includes pre-procedure assessment, pre-medication, documentation of the cath process, post-cath care, and patient education. The RN will scrub in for procedures and assist other members of the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The second unit will be based on the applicant's previous experience. This position was posted internally from 6/30/2025 to 7/7/2025.

Requirements

  • ACLS certified.
  • BLS certified.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Associate degree in Nursing.
  • Knowledge of nursing technique as normally acquired through completion of an Associates degree in Nursing.
  • Knowledge of critical care nursing as normally acquired through 2 years experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting.
  • Minimum of three years of Cath Lab experience required.
  • Knowledge of moderate sedation, medication and IV solution administration required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Knowledge of critical care nursing as normally acquired through 2 years experience working in a Medical Center or similar setting is preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Previous direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of cardiac stress testing preferred.
  • Knowledge of invasive radiology procedures and cardiac catherization preferred.
  • Knowledge and operation of intraaortic balloon pump preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs nursing care of the catheterization/angiography cardiovascular patient and conducts other cardiac diagnostic nursing procedures according to department protocol.
  • Assists in stress echocardiogram, routine treadmill exam, nuclear and pharmacologic stress testing, tilt table, echocardiograms (NS/Definity), cardioversions, and transesophageal echocardiograms.
  • Assists with prep, procedure, and recovery for other interventional radiology procedures.
  • Evaluates and screens patients for safety prior to performing testing.
  • Provides sedation monitoring in accordance with hospital policy and documents appropriately.
  • Applies Holter monitors, Event monitors, and Ambulatory blood pressure monitors; performs pacemaker interrogations.
  • Inserts PICC lines and functions as a vascular access expert to meet patients' needs.
  • Operates equipment and manages supplies, including cardiac output, hemodynamic monitoring, pacemakers/ICDs, intraaortic balloon pump, crash cart, IV pumps, defibrillators, point-of-care glucometer/blood sugar testing, stress machines, and other nursing supplies (Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE/IV etc).
  • Scrubs in for procedures with the physician.
  • Records all pertinent information on appropriate data sheets.
  • Develops, reviews, and enhances cardiovascular education materials and programs.
  • Assists in other radiology/cardiology procedures as needed.
  • Required 30-minute response time to arrive on site when on-call.
  • Demonstrates a general ability to manage assignments and perform routine duties on the unit.
  • Attends and participates in professional association activities and programs to ensure currency on regulations, guidelines, and professional standards.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of pre, intra, and post-procedure routine and initiates a teaching plan appropriate to the procedure and the patient's level of understanding.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of physician preference and routine and communicates effectively with patients, families, and physicians to ensure appropriate care is provided.
  • Inserts PICC lines via ultrasound guidance and provides instruction/education to patients.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of all medications administered for patient care and provides sedation monitoring in accordance with hospital policy and documents appropriately.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interpret information and reports pertinent data to the physician, including pertinent clinical information.
  • Oversees and maintains the use and function of nursing equipment, crash cart, IVACs, O2, defibrillators, Nova StatStrip Glucose Meter, and other nursing supplies (Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE/IV etc).
  • Required to be part of the transport team when patients have an intraaortic balloon pump or impella placed and need a higher level of care.
  • Transfers patients, stocks supplies, and performs basic office functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
