About The Position

General Dentist (GPR) Provide both primary and comprehensive preventative and therapeutic oral health care including those with special health care needs. Under minimal supervision, diagnose, prevent, and treat problems with teeth or mouth tissue. Remove decay, fill cavities, examine x-rays, place protective plastic sealants, repair fractured teeth, manage dental trauma, dental extractions, and appropriately refer when necessary. Make models and measurements for prothesis to replace missing teeth and limited prosthodontic care. Provide instruction on diet, brushing, flossing, the use of fluorides, and other aspects of dental care. Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications. Provide services both in a clinical, hospital and operating room setting. The Dentist, DDS actively diagnoses and treats dental conditions, injuries and irregularities of the oral cavity and related tissues and provides education regarding prevention and oral hygiene.

Requirements

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) and successful completion of a general practice residency approved by the Commission on Dental accreditation.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company and State and Federal agencies.
Maintain proper, detailed and accurate dental records.
Travels between clinics to work, as needed.
Willingness to be on-call, as scheduled, by the Dental Director/Administrative Director (AD).
Willingness to assist Clinic Manager/AD in supervising the dental staff and assuring that clinic is compliant with State and Federal guidelines.
Meet productivity goals, as set by the Arkansas Children's Hospital organization and assist the AD, and work with dental staff to accomplish that goal.
Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, staff and administration.
Perform other tasks, as directed by the Dental Director/AD, as needed to meet clinic or organization goals.
Supervise Dental Assistants with whom he/she works.
Understand the organization's commitment to provide high quality patient care. Promote a patient-centered environment.
Examine and diagnose and treat dental conditions to provide optimum care to patients.
Consult with the patient/parent/guardian and advise them of dental status and required treatment.
Educate patients regarding oral conditions, provide treatment options and explain to the patient/parent/guardian the risks, benefits and alternatives of each option.
Treat dental conditions for patients of all ages, and if unable to provide a particular service, to a patient, provide the patient with the appropriate specialty referral.
Treats soft/ hard tissues diseases of the oral cavity; perform surgery on oral tissues when necessary; render prosthetic treatment, when indicated; design and place orthodontic appliances for interceptive orthodontics.
Provide quality care to the patients of Arkansas Children's Hospital, within the scope of practice outlined by state and/or federal law.
Deliver care in accordance with established standards of care and accepted community standards.
Prepares charts and determines the most feasible plan for treatment. Maintains charts and treatment plans and completes required reports.
Treat exposure of pulp-by-pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber, or root canal (anterior teeth only), using dental instruments.
Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patient during procedure.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops.
