About The Position

The General Construction Labourer supports the installation of residential and commercial exterior and civil construction projects across a wide range of structural scopes. This includes hardscape installation, structural earthworks, civil grading, synthetic turf systems, architectural water features, and structural pool environments. Working under the direction of the Construction Foreman or Crew Lead, this role performs heavy hands-on labor, material handling, and structural installation activities to support safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution. This position requires a strong work ethic, exceptional physical stamina, and the ability to perform demanding tasks in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Construction Labourer is required.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License, a clean driver's abstract, and an insurance experience letter are required.
  • Candidates must possess a reliable source of personal transportation to get to and from various job sites in Edmonton, Calgary, and surrounding areas.
  • Proficient English oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to follow directions, work independently, and cooperate seamlessly as part of a dynamic team.
  • Proven ability to independently operate, care for, and maintain construction tools and small engine equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Basic understanding of safe work practices, grading, layouts, and installation practices on active construction sites.
  • Competence in using digital mobile applications for time-tracking and detailed record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with rough and final grading, structural excavation, sub-base compaction, elevation work, and soil cell stormwater management systems. Support structural site layout, staking, and preparation activities. Prepare construction sites through debris removal, structural stripping, and heavy material staging.
  • Assist with the installation of architectural concrete paving stones, retaining walls, structural decks, fences, edging, and heavy boulder placements. Support structural base preparation, cutting, placement, mixing concrete, laying bricks, and assisting carpenters and other trades. Assist with structural base work and layout for large-scale commercial and civil installations.
  • Support sub-grade soil preparation, fine grading, compaction, and sub-base preparation for synthetic and organic turf establishment. Assist in the construction of large and small-scale synthetic turf projects, including operating heavy tampers, grading, and installing turf materials.
  • Assist with the construction and installation of engineered storm ponds, architectural fountains, aquatic water features, and related structural components. Support pool area construction including sub-base preparation, structural backfill, drainage systems, and structural finishing work. Assist with heavy liner placement, structural rock work, and feature integration as directed.
  • Safely operate construction hand tools and powered small engine equipment (e.g., plate compactors, tampers, cut-off saws) safely and exactly as trained.
  • Assist with larger powered mobile equipment operations (e.g., skid steers, mini excavators) under supervision when required.
  • Ability to drive a company truck and trailer combination to safely transport heavy equipment, construction tools, and materials to and from active job sites.
  • Perform basic equipment care, routine cleaning, and daily safety checks.
  • Document and report equipment defects or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor.
  • Complete all structural construction activities in accordance with project drawings, technical specifications, and company standards.
  • Maintain highly clean, organized, safe, and professional job sites.
  • Actively support the construction crew in achieving daily production targets and tight project timelines.
  • Identify and report construction deficiencies, material issues, or rework risks to the Crew Lead or Foreman.
  • Follow all company health and safety policies, OH&S regulations, Safe Work Practices, and Safe Job Procedures.
  • Wear and maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Actively participate in daily toolbox/tailgate meetings, hazard assessments, and site safety documentation.
  • Report all site hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately to management.
  • Maintain accurate, daily written work records, safety paperwork, and construction logs.
  • Load, unload, transport, and move heavy project materials, tools, and construction equipment.
  • Support daily site setup and extensive end-of-day project site clean-ups.
  • Use various mobile applications for accurate digital time-tracking and daily record-keeping.
  • Represent the company professionally on all residential and commercial job sites.
  • From November through April, Park Landscaping Ltd. transitions its primary field operations to comprehensive winter services and heavy snow/ice management. During this period, all field roles adapt to support winter service commitments. Due to the unpredictable nature of Alberta weather, this position requires a highly flexible schedule, including availability for short-notice early starts, evenings, weekends, and holidays during significant winter weather events.
