About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, push/pull using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift, kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment, overhead reaching required throughout shift, and sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, requiring depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints and smudges from surfaces. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, and check/refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Empty, clean, and reline trash cans, replacing liners as needed.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture and in restrooms, using appropriate techniques.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, policing parking lots, and high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting of window areas.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables, spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove and clean dirty trays, and police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift, and always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
