About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves performing various cleaning tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas and drapes.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas and retrieving supplies.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces.
  • Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
  • Ability to see clearly, with depth perception and hand-eye coordination, for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
  • Clean bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions and appropriate tools.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques and equipment, ensuring all areas are covered.
  • Perform grounds care, including cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
  • Clean and maintain public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting for cobwebs.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, empty trash cans, and clean dirty trays.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the exit.
  • Conduct self-inspections after cleaning to ensure all steps are completed and furniture is properly placed.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks for halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to the appropriate person.
  • Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and minimize noise levels.
  • Stay within the assigned work area unless directed otherwise by a supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care, carpet extraction, and auto scrubbing.
