About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.
  • Requires sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter clockwise direction (e.g., lights, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, countertops, trashcans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs, walls, and spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and inside of toilet bowls using appropriate solutions and tools. Refill soap and paper dispensers as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and place a clean liner in the trash can.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust.
  • Grounds Care: Clean and check outside areas, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, high dusting, cleaning public area glass, and policing parking lots.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Daily Tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned area, maintain a clean appearance, and report incomplete work to the supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
