About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires excellent customer relations and service, reporting any issues to a supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, and trash.
  • Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs of force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment and cleaning surfaces.
  • Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
  • Adequate sight, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination, for cleaning tasks and safety standards.
  • Must be able to work 6am-10am on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
  • Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, and spot clean windows and walls.
  • Clean bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, ensuring they are refilled as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, clean them if necessary, and replace liners.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Perform grounds care, including cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
  • Clean and spot mop main hallways, ensuring glass is cleaned, planters are clean, and performing high dusting of window areas.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, and clean trays using a tray power washer.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas under furniture and behind doors are cleaned.
  • Inspect completed work, mentally reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service, being friendly, courteous, and helpful.
  • Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care, carpet cleaning, auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
