About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including common spaces, restrooms, food courts, and exterior grounds.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working in a counter-clockwise direction around rooms, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, ensuring all surfaces are clean and refilling supplies as needed.
Empty trash cans, replace liners, and clean cans if necessary.
Dust or vacuum floors using appropriate methods, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and high dusting window ledges.
Clean and maintain public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, maintaining planters, and checking for cobwebs.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, place chairs back, spot clean spills, and clean accumulated dirty trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the exit.
Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps, and checking furniture placement for corrections.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and courteous, answering questions, reporting issues to supervisors, working quietly, and maintaining a clean personal appearance.
Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor, which may include floor care tasks like stripping and waxing, carpet extraction, and auto scrubbing/buffing.
