About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including common areas, bathrooms, food courts, and grounds care, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and customer service.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and safe equipment operation.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
Clean bathrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, and refill supplies as needed.
Empty and clean trash cans, replacing liners as necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques and equipment.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and cleaning public area glass.
Maintain public common areas by dust mopping, spot mopping, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting for cobwebs.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, and police outside eating areas.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room.
Conduct self-inspections after cleaning to ensure all tasks are completed to standard.
Perform daily cleaning of hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including high dusting.
Provide excellent customer relations and service, responding courteously to customer inquiries and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping, waxing, extraction, bonneting) and auto scrubbing/buffing floors.
