About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.

Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs of force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at the waist, knees, and neck throughout the shift.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas or retrieving supplies.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment and cleaning surfaces.
Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
Adequate sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down bathroom surfaces with a germicidal solution, including sink, toilet exterior, and interior. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
Empty Trash Cans: Remove and replace liners, wiping down cans if liquid is present.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned. Clean mop heads as needed.
Grounds care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces, planters, and check for cobwebs/perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt and debris.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning and stacking. Police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
Daily Tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting are done daily. High dusting is also done daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously, or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly, reducing noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
