About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
  • Perform floor dusting or vacuuming using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, working from the back of the room towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary.
  • Police the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, checking for cobwebs, and high dusting window areas at least twice a week.
  • Clean corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other foreign debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables.
  • Spot clean spills in the food court.
  • Empty and clean trash cans in the food court.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas in the food court.
  • Perform floor sanitizing using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Visually inspect cleaned rooms, checking furniture placement and making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily hall, lobby, stairs, water fountain, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting.
  • Practice good customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring customers to someone who can, reporting broken or out-of-order items, working quietly, and maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
