About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans) and remove fingerprints/smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop. Check and refill soap and paper dispensers.
Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with a clean liner.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean mophead with a counter brush. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering areas under furniture.
Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass, planters, and check for cobwebs/do high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Using a germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors.
Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are performed daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned area, maintain a neat appearance, and report incomplete work to the supervisor.
Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
