About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities, ensuring they are kept in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. The role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment, encompassing a wide range of janitorial duties from high dusting and sanitizing to floor care, grounds care, and maintaining public common areas and food courts. The cleaner is expected to maintain customer relations, report issues, and adhere to professional conduct.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift.
  • Ability to use sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, requiring depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting surfaces above shoulder height, including lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges, in a counter clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height, such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trashcans, using a germicidal solution.
  • Spot cleaning doorknobs, walls, and windows to remove fingerprints and smudges.
  • Cleaning bathrooms, including above and below the sink, toilet seat, outside and inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, and refilling soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Emptying trash cans, wiping them if liquid is present, and replacing liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming, starting at the back of the room using the “S” stroke for dust mopping, cleaning under all furniture, and disposing of dust into the service cart.
  • Performing Grounds care by emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot.
  • Maintaining Public Common Areas by dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass several times daily, cleaning planters, and checking for cobwebs/high dusting window areas at least two times per week.
  • Cleaning Food Court areas by removing trash, sanitizing tables, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning for spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, cleaning them using a tray power washer, and policing outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Mentally reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement after completing a room to ensure corrections are made.
  • Daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Knocking lightly on doors before entering if occupied.
  • Being friendly and cheerful to customers, answering questions courteously or referring them to appropriate personnel.
  • Reporting anything broken or out of order in the room to the supervisor.
  • Working quietly and speaking quietly to reduce or eliminate noise.
  • Staying in the assigned work area unless requested to go elsewhere by the supervisor.
  • Maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
  • Reporting to the supervisor if the work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Always being courteous.
  • Performing other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, including floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors.
