About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces using a germicidal solution, working counter-clockwise around the room, sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down in the following order: above and below the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim to remove germs.
  • Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, removing the liner and wiping the can if liquid is present, then placing a clean liner.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead, starting at the back of the room using the 'S' stroke to catch dust on the leading edge. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door. Clean the mophead with a counter brush and sweep dust into a dustpan for disposal. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work toward the door, ensuring to get under chairs and furniture.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary.
  • Police the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways.
  • Clean glass in public areas several times during the day.
  • Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste.
  • Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week.
  • Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other foreign debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables.
  • Spot clean spills in the food court.
  • Empty and clean trash cans in the food court.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays on a shelf for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas in the food court.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as backing out of the room.
  • Perform final inspection of rooms, mentally reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Practice good customer relations and service, including knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring customers to someone who can help, reporting broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by a supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
