About The Position

This role involves performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. The General Cleaner will also undertake other tasks related to their area of assignment.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs of force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger.
Ability to perform overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting of surfaces above shoulder height using a treated high duster.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
Clean bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions.
Empty and clean trash cans, replacing liners as needed.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, and wiping benches and vending machines.
Clean public common areas, including dusting main hallways, cleaning glass, maintaining planters, and checking for cobwebs.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, and clean trays using a tray power washer.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Visually inspect and ensure furniture placement is correct after cleaning.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to the appropriate person.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping, waxing, extraction, bonneting), auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
