About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
  • Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs of force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas or retrieving supplies.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment, using tools, wiping surfaces, and using cleaning equipment.
  • Overhead reaching required throughout the shift.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges) in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, wipe down sink areas, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove the liner, wipe the can, and place a new liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, working from the back of the room towards the door, including under furniture and in restrooms. Clean the mophead with a counter brush. When vacuuming, start at the back and work towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Grounds care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass several times daily. Clean planters inside and out, removing bird waste. Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report incomplete work assignments to the supervisor. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
