About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down in a specific order: above and below the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, removing and replacing liners if liquid is present, and wiping down the can.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead with an "S" stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean the mophead with a counter brush and dispose of dust.
  • When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary.
  • Police the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean and sanitize tables in the food court, place chairs back under tables, spot clean spills, and empty trash cans.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas in the food court.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and cheerful manner, answer questions courteously, or refer them to someone who can.
  • Report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and speak quietly, reducing or eliminating noise.
  • Stay within the assigned work area unless requested otherwise by a supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
  • Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
